Dude, the dub of Sonic X sucked. They replaced Live and Learn, a freaking ENGLISH SONG, with generic battle music during the epic fight with the Finalhazard. If it was a Japanese song, I'd chalk it up to 4Kids being... well, 4Kids, but it was FREAKING LIVE AND LEARN. That's besides all the OTHER problems: removing all references to death, which turned the character Molly from that one filler episode from a hero into a coward by changing her heroic sacrifice to her RUNNING AWAY. I'm betting you don't even remember that episode. The acting was typical 4Kids atrocity (except for Mike Pollock), and well... it was freaking 4KIDS. THEY RUIN EVERYTHING.

That, and in the first episode, they somehow mistook "Chaos Control" for the NAME OF EGGMAN'S BASE. When called out on this, the head writer BRAGGED that he had NEVER PLAYED THE GAMES, NEVER SEEN ANY OF THE PRIOR CARTOONS, AND NEVER READ THE COMICS. There's typical 4Kids dub changes, there's just plain stupidity, and then there's just not giving a damn.

This is also the company whose CEO, Alfred Khan, claimed that kids don't read, and once infamously claimed that "manga was dying in Japan," despite evidence (that evidence being, well, EVERYTHING) to the contrary.

What I'm saying is... Why did you reference the dub theme song?

For that matter, even the Japanese version wasn't all that great either. Chris was a whiny little brat who was willing to doom both worlds so that he could be with his lover... I mean friend, Sonic. When called out on this, he whined that he would be all alone if Sonic left. Apparently, he forgot about all of his other friends, his grandfather, his parents, and his other relatives. From what I UNDERSTAND (I'll be honest, I only watched a few episodes of the show in the first place), he mellowed out in Season 3 (despite his body being reduced to a kid again when entering Sonic's world for... some reason) and became much more mature. But at that point, I didn't really care. Not to mention, he took away Amy's moment of awesomeness (snapping Shadow out of his homicidal rage) by being the one to do it himself. Of course, it was preceded by Shadow beating the crap out of him... well, in the Japanese version, anyway. There are some other problems, but I think that's enough ranting.

By the way, did you know that, despite the fact that Season 3 had been written, recorded, and animated by the Japanese studio, it never actually aired on Japanese television because the show didn't really have the greatest ratings? In fact, the dub (which still sucked) was the first time it had actually aired on television, though from what I understand, the Japanese version was released on DVD later.

...Since I admitted that A) I haven't seen much of the show, and B) I don't like the dub, where can I find the Japanese version of the show with subtitles?

@Jarkes: To be honest, I only liked season 3. Probably because of TailsXCosmo. Yeah they're 8, but still...

Reply AuraX (Guest), March 9th, 2012, 4:08 pm

Eh, they're fictional characters, the rules are probably different for them.

Maybe they mature at junior ages while we mature at teenage levels.

And I personally liked season 3 altogether. The only original plot, gave tails a girlfriend, Chris was bearable, Dark Sonic, Shadow heroic sacrifice #2, it was all good.

Aw, rants, I remember when I made a rant about how dumb Chris was an how he stole the show from Sonic. Aw, good times. Too bad I'm not 14 anymore.

I actually perfer watching Sonic X in Japanese, but I'm rather picky about that even, since I only like certain clips. I've moved on and I don't watch Animes anymore, though I don't know much about a Sonic the Hedgehog Manga aside form the ones from before 2000. I think that guy was refering to the Archie Comic, which is not unfounded, as until 2006, when Ian took over, the comic was spazzing like an idiot with Ken Penders and like 11 other writers were trying to write something decent. They totally blotched 150, with the stupid story of titan tails that leaves even Penders confused. I've read the whole series, and still current, but of all of the stories between The End Game and Ian's run, I'd have to say The Return to Angel Island Arc is the best arc in the entire spaz era.

Huh, I've heard that just about every writer in the Archie comic (Penders, Bollers, and Flynn) have had their fair share of fans and haters. Not helped by the fact that Penders and Bollers are well known for the... disputes that went on between the two of them. Also, regarding the recent "Sonic: Genesis" arc... okay, I've only heard things about it, but... if you're going to do a "Crisis on Infinite Earths"-type story that makes the comic more like its game counterpart, then STICK WITH IT and don't undo all the changes after four issues. Though I do hear the idea of Mecha Sally is... interesting, and only came about as a result of undoing the changes that were happening as a result of the Genesis arc, and... well, I'll be honest, I lost interest in the comic years ago (about 10 years ago, to be specific), and only have a little bit of knowledge over what's happened over the past several years.

...Wow, we're on a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon comic, and we're talking about Sonic the Hedgehog. Huh.

How did this turn into a review about Sonic X?

Reply AuraX (Guest), March 10th, 2012, 8:59 am

Because Jarkes didn't like Sonic X, and therefore assumed that everyone else hated it, leaving him confused as to why the title of this page was a quote from the intro.
